Academic advisor for the department's exchange students
General Information
Here I will post information related to my role as academic advisor
for the department's exchange students.
As academic advisor, I can give advice primarily concerning courses given by the
Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. These have
codes that end with "E" (D0010E, M7010E, S7006E etc).
Note that for
good advice about which courses given by other departments to take, you
should contact
the department in charge of the course.
Visiting hours
Please respect that I have other business to attend, and therefore my
time as academic advisor is limited (2h per week).
Visits to my office should be
limited to the visiting hours posted here.
In general, they are:
- Tuesdays: 13:00 - 14:00
- Thursdays: 11:00 - 11:45
Exceptions:
- Nov 27, Dec 2, and Dec 4: I'm on leave 2008-11-27 til 2008-12-06
and away from town. If
you have (really) urgent matters, please see either Jonas Ekman or
Kalevi Hyyppä at systemteknik (my department).
- October 21th: Cancelled because of presentations in courses the
entire day. But I'm available on Thursday again.
Frequently asked questions
- Q: Where do I find general information about my courses?!
A: "studentwebben" (the
student website of LTU).
- Q: Where is the list of "course modules" I need to check
that couses do not overlap on my schedule?
A: For courses in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering,
go to Valguiden (in
Swedish) and click "Institutionen för systemteknik"
This leads to
a page where the course modules are listed in the column "Modul"
("institutionen" means department and each link on the page leads
to courses offered by different departments).
Avoid taking courses that run in the same course modul as their
schedules might then overlap to a high degree (well, if you are lucky
the overlap is small; check with the professors giving the courses).
On the other hand,
courses in different modules do not overlap at all.
- Q: What do I need to do when I start in Luleå?
A: The first and most important thing is to contact
the International Office. Make sure you are
admitted to the courses you applied for and that your home university
has approved these choices (often referred to as the "learning
agreement" in the case of ERASMUS students).
If you have any problems, the international office in the B-building
will assist.
The second thing is to come by my office (see Visiting
Hours above) so I know that you are in good standing and in sync with
your learning agreement. It is your own responsibility to keep to your
learning agreement (and have it changed when needed) and I just like
you to confirm that this is indeed the case.
- Q: How do I get access to the student web portal?
A: The portal is here. To
access the portal students use their student login (IDEAL user) and assigned
password.
Contact the international office in the B-building if you have not
received a computer account (IDEAL user).
